iPhone users who bought certain models may receive an important letter next month explaining how to claim a share of a EUR 215 million (around £185 million) class action settlement involving Apple. The correspondence will set out how eligible owners can file for their portion of the payout.
The settlement stems from a lawsuit brought by iPhone buyers who claimed they were misled by Apple’s ongoing promotion of a new “Personal Siri” into purchasing a new handset. Anyone who bought one of seven qualifying iPhone models between 10 June 2024 and 29 March 2025 is eligible to take part.
How the Siri promotion led to the lawsuit
Apple first outlined Siri’s new capabilities at WWDC 2024. In a demonstration, an iPhone user was shown asking Siri what time their mother’s flight was due to land. Siri obtained the flight number from an email in the user’s inbox and, using real-time flight data, returned the answer. In another example, Siri located a podcast recommended by a friend by searching through the user’s emails.
The company reinforced its messaging with a September 2024 advertisement featuring actress Bella Ramsey, which again showed Siri sifting through email, texts, calendar, photos and notes. The lawsuit was triggered by a March 2025 announcement that Apple was indefinitely delaying the feature. A further delay followed in the subsequent February.
Apple eventually introduced the feature, officially named Siri AI, with the first iOS 27 beta release. Those who felt they had been persuaded to buy an iPhone only to find the feature was not yet ready became the plaintiffs in the class action.
Which iPhone models qualify
To file a claim, buyers had to purchase one of the following models between 10 June 2024 and 29 March 2025: the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Each claimant with an eligible device is expected to receive about EUR 21 (roughly £18) per device. Should Apple receive fewer claims than anticipated, that figure could rise to about EUR 82 (around £70) per device. The final settlement hearing has been scheduled for 24 February 2027, with payments potentially distributed around that time.
If the judge agrees to Apple’s proposed schedule, eligible iPhone owners will begin to be notified about the suit by email and post on or around 21 September.
