GPT-6 Astra captured much of the attention this week, yet OpenAI was not alone in unveiling fresh technology. Anthropic, Meta and Google each released new AI models within days of one another, continuing a rapid pace of updates that has become characteristic of the sector in 2026.
A common theme runs through the announcements: advancements in agentic AI workflows. Every one of the new releases places emphasis on these capabilities, reflecting where the leading developers are directing their efforts.
OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta Refresh Their Line-ups
GPT-6 Astra stands out as the only model released this week that is not a point update. OpenAI describes it as its most intelligent model to date, highlighting strengths in cybersecurity and software engineering. Performance benchmarks place Astra ahead of rival systems across a range of measures, marking it as one of the most advanced models seen so far.
OpenAI also points to Astra’s abilities in multi-step agentic workflows, scientific discovery and financial modelling. The model is said to handle computer use more effectively, an area that was a focus of its predecessor, ChatGPT 5.6, released in July. Astra is initially rolling out to users with Daybreak access, a programme for vetted enterprise customers and cybersecurity practitioners, with availability for Plus, Pro and Business users expected in the days that follow.
Anthropic introduced updates to its Fable and Mythos models. Both Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 are described as the same underlying model with different safeguards. Fable is intended for general users, while Mythos is typically reserved for researchers and cybersecurity experts. Anthropic states that the latest versions offer significantly better performance and set a new standard for coding, knowledge work and long-running problem-solving tasks. Fable 5.1, when set to low or medium effort, is said to match the performance of Fable 5 at a much lower cost. Fable 5.1 is available to the general public, whereas Mythos remains limited to Anthropic’s trusted access programmes.
Meta released Muse Spark 1.3, a model bringing more advanced reasoning and improved performance in agentic and coding tasks. Meta says the model is trained to collaborate with users, asking clarifying questions when a prompt is vague and confirming the actions it will take within agentic workflows. Muse Spark 1.3 is available through Muse Code and Meta’s Model API.
Google Adds Gemini 3.8 Options
Google rounded out the week with two additions to its Gemini range, including Gemini 3.8 Flash and a variant aimed at cybersecurity tasks. The releases continue Google’s steady expansion of its model line-up alongside its competitors.
