The Motorola Signature 27 is now official, becoming the first smartphone to be introduced with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Mobile Platform. Motorola unveiled the device during the Snapdragon Summit, alongside the new chipset that powers it. While other handsets will eventually adopt the processor, the Signature 27 is the first to arrive officially with Qualcomm’s latest silicon.
Motorola describes the Signature 27 as the most advanced smartphone the company has ever produced. It is scheduled for a worldwide release later this year.
AI and Gemini integration
The Signature 27 is built around on-device AI and features the Gemini personal AI assistant. Beyond answering queries, Gemini can take action, helping users plan an outing, book a dinner reservation, or find tickets to an event. The assistant now integrates with more of the apps and services that smartphone users rely on.
Additional AI tools extend the phone’s creative capabilities. With Gemini Omni, a prompt, photos, or an existing video can be transformed into a polished video. With Gemini Lyria, users can compose and create original music.
Cameras and imaging
The device is fitted with a 50MP main camera paired with a Sony LYTIA sensor, which Motorola says delivers rich colour, exceptional clarity, and deep contrast. A 200MP periscope telephoto camera handles long-distance photography of landscapes, architecture, and other distant subjects.
Motorola’s Video Enhancement Engine uses AI to analyse scenes and adjust colour tones, allowing users to capture true-to-life colours. The company combines AI, cinematic video, and its hardware to produce what it calls “professional-grade results”.
Audio and cooling
Through a partnership with Bang & Olufsen, the Signature 27 becomes the first Motorola phone to feature Audio by B&O. Motorola indicated the arrangement is exclusive, stating the Signature 27 will be the only phone to use B&O sound. The deal is expected to have an expiry point, though this has not been specified.
To manage heat, the Signature 27 uses Motorola’s ArcticMesh cooling system. It combines a diamond-infused thermal gel, liquid metal, copper mesh, and a redesigned 3D vapour chamber that is 40% larger. The system is designed to keep the handset cool during demanding tasks such as gaming and long AI sessions, which typically raise a chipset’s temperature.
